How EV began
A guild governed by its members
Eternal Vigilance began on January 6, 2005. Its twelve founders came from an older guild rooted in the Star Wars Galaxies pre-beta community of 2002. Roughly a month after World of Warcraft launched, they broke away over disagreements about guild management. They wanted members to hold power together, with elected leaders and a written charter.
The founders worked in temporary forums, in a section called the Constitutional Convention, alongside a nearly nonstop MSN chat. Roughly half lived in the United Kingdom and half in North America. They drafted a code of conduct and chain of command. The permanent forums opened January 6, 2005; the name Eternal Vigilance was chosen on January 9.
