Doran asks you politely to ignore all the red links in this article. It's meant to work with Wookieepedia, not EVpedia. If you are having a problem understanding a link in red and have no idea what it is (aka Vodo-Siosk Baas), search for it on Wookieepedia.
Doran also knows that, while reading this bio, you will realize it breaks Star Wars canon (in every instance, in fact) and actually writes new info for canon characters (Nomi Sunrider). Doran asks you ignore that.

- — Exar Kun
Doran Nu (4,024 BBY - 9 ABY. Reborn 18 ABY - present), who was born Doranesweyn Nuiawrian, was an Ossan Jedi Master, former Council member and former Grand Jedi General of the Grand Army of the Republic. He is also a member of the New Jedi Order, the guardians of the New Republic and Galactic Alliance. Doran was the hero of the Exar Kun War and the leader of many Jedi armies in many wars throughout the 4,000 year history prior to the Battle of Yavin.
Much of Doran's life is clouded in secrecy, moreso to the fact that he does not remember some of it due to memory suppression and capture by enemy forces. Doran was "killed" by Joruus C'Baoth, but became one with the Force, but closer to the corporeal world than most Force spirits. Doran helped Luke Skywalker establish the Jedi Praxeum and drive off the Sith spirit of Exar Kun forever. Doran's spirit was captured and abosorbed by the outer-dimensional being Waru, but Doran kept himself alive inside the creature using the Force. Surprisingly, Nomi Sunrider was inside the being as well, and together they freed themselves before the being. Doran was reborn into a new body along with Nomi, whom he later married and had a son, Andur.
Biography
Early Life (4,024 BBY-3,996 BBY)
- "I was a very naive kid in my youth. That's how I got to be so old."
- — Doran Nu
Doranesweyn Nuiawrian was born in the year 4,024 BBY on the planet Ossus. An Ossan Near-Human, he was born with enhanced mind power, strength, and force sensitivity, but Doran was also born with a debilitating injury in his spine that reduces movement in his body. Because his parents wanted him to eventually join the Jedi, they hired a doctor to perform extensive treatment on him to correct the error. The information on these procedures was purged from the records of the Old Republic.
While on Ossus, Doran ventured into a cave in the midsts of the mountains. There he found a glowing yellow crystal, touching it sent a coursing energy through him, and left him unconscious on the ground. This energy wave gave him immortality, although it was not apparent until his lack of aging could become prominent.
Training
- "You are weak! You have no skills that can help you! But... you have great potential."
- — Vodo-Siosk Baas, to Doran Nu
Shortening his name to Doran Nu, he catches a series of transports to the Outer Rim world of Dantooine where he begins training under Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas. Master Vodo originally put Doran under extremely tough training, but lightened up to him when Doran eventually and effectively completed the tasks before him. More students arrived to Vodo's lightsaber training school, including Exar Kun. Doran befriended the rash Exar, or at least, tried to. Exar was more busy learning about the dark side then to care, and Doran was too naive to see what Exar was doing. Doran watched with horror as Exar challenges Master Vodo to a duel, but is relieved when Vodo beats Exar with his walking stick. Exar instead grabs Doran's lightsaber from a surprised Doran's belt and beats Vodo, breaking his stick. Exar soon leaves, having enough sense to leave Doran his lightsaber.
Doran traveled with Vodo to Coruscant, where he learned of the advanced warnings that Bogga the Hutt meant to steal crystals from Jedi Master Thon on Ambria. Doran was dispatched to Ambria, but found Nomi Sunrider had already defeated Bogga's minions. Doran fell for Nomi instantly, but learned she had just come from seeing her husband murdered in the Stenness System. Leaving her to her grief, they were then sent to assist the Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma in the Onderon system. He was heartbroken to discover Nomi falling for Ulic, but held steadfast to his task, helping them, along with Cay Qel-Droma and Tott Doneeta, helping Cay find a prosthetic arm when he lost his real one in battle.
Involvement in the Sith War
- "Tell me where he is, Ulic. Tell me or you there will be an empty space between your neck and shoulders in seconds."
- — Doran Nu
Doran joined his friends in opposing Ulic's choice for defeating the Krath Empire by turning to the dark side of the Force. He later traveled to Ulic's trial on Coruscant, remaining neutral in the views whether Ulic should be punished for his crimes. When Exar Kun arrives, he was frozen along with everybody else, powerless while Exar challenged and killed Master Vodo in a duel. Doran broke the Force hold, and ran to his dying master. This was the end of Doran's naivety, as Doran looked at Exar with fiery eyes filled with rage. Exar force pushed Doran into a wall, and then walked away, taking Ulic with him.
Too soon later, the Jedi Order learned of Aleema Keto's destruction of the Cron system and the shockwave poised to take Ossus with it. Doran met Exar on Ossus, and engaged in a fierce lightsaber duel with him. Exar toyed with Doran, as with his double-bladed lightsaber, he was sure to win. Exar did not beat Doran with his weapon though, instead choosing to grab him a Force grip. Choking and hanging in midair above a cliff recently formed by the rapidly changing surface of the planet, Doran had few options and gathered his energies in a Force lightning strike at Exar, who was subdued. Doran fell down the cliff, but redirected his fall to catch the cliff wall not far from the edge. He climbed the cliff quickly using his newly awakened abilities with the Force, but Exar had already escaped. He found that Ulic had killed his brother, Cay, and Nomi had stripped Ulic of the Force as a result. They escaped on a transport, and Doran was forced to watch the shockwave hit his homeworld, scorching the surface.
Doran confronted Ulic in his cell back on Coruscant, getting information that Exar was on Yavin 4. He flew to the moon before the Republic got the information and confronted Exar in his temple. A long and arduous fight began, fought not only with lightsabers but also with Force powers and their own fists at times. The Republic soon began to bombard the moon and Doran was cut off from Exar. He fled the moon and rejoined the fleet; sure of himself that Exar would be killed in the turbolaser strikes.
Post-Sith War (3,995 BBY-1,000 BBY)
Doran met up again with Nomi Sunrider, helping her find her daughter on Rhen Var. Doran still held some dislike for Ulic, but nevertheless caught Ulic's killer, the pirate Hoggon. Doran was surprised to see Ulic's body become one with the Force.
Pulled away from the Galaxy
- "I love you, Nomi.
I know. I've always known... all this time... that you did." - — Doran Nu and Nomi Sunrider
Doran tried to stay in contact with Nomi Sunrider and later professed his love during their final mission together to root out the operatives of the Exchange. Doran was captured and forced to become the first being successfully frozen in carbonite and live. He was held in this state for from 3,985 BBY-3,941 BBY. There, he was freed from a group of smugglers and Jedi attempting to restore the Jedi Order to its former prominence. Doran helped them succeed.
The Return of a Jedi Master
- "What are you doing, bounty hunter? What is that in your hand?
My name is Doran Nu, I am a Jedi, this is my lightsaber, and I am about to kill you." - — A pirate and Doran Nu
In 3000 BBY, Doran was captured by pirates that hid out in the future Corporate Sector and kept in a cell for the next 30 years. During this time, Doran was tortured for information about the Republic and the Jedi Order. Eventually, Doran escaped and murdered all of the pirates, stealing a ship from them and spending the next five years naivagting his way to civilized space.

Doran had ins and outs with the new Jedi Order for a long time, leaving them for 500 years, sometimes to the Mandalorians. During the latter stages of the Sith War, Doran was captured and tortured ruthlessly into by the Sith. The Sith had found out his location through a close-knit network of spies and informants and planned to convert the oldest Jedi into a Sith. Blasted day and night with Sith lightning, they suceeded. Doran was renamed Darth Keerban, a name coming from the Mando'a phrase kyr'be'an or "end of all things". The Sith thought Doran to be the Jedi's greatest weakness and for a time, they were right.
Doran the Sith Lord
- "My pain is too great to be considered a Jedi any longer."
- — Darth Keerban
Darth Keerban became one of the Sith military commanders. He led most of them to battle during the Ruusan campaign. Lord Hoth, the Jedi's converted him back to the light. Again, as Doran, he fought for the Jedi's forces at the final Battle of Ruusan. During the latter stages of the battle, Doran was airlifted from the planet due to extreme exhaustion. He was luckily in high orbit of the planet when the thought bomb created by the Brotherhood of Darkness went off, eliminating everybody on the planet, except Darth Bane and Zannah.
Afterwards, Doran realized the faults of the Jedi Order for the past millenia. He helped form ideas that led to the Ruusan Reformation, bringing the Order closer to the Supreme Chancellor like never before. Doran also took a seat on the Jedi Council.
Destruction of Galactic Republic (32 BBY-19 BBY)
The Coming of the Chosen One
- "He is too old. He is fearful of his mother. His future is very much uncertain. He is... potentially, our savior."
- — Doran Nu
Doran was still on the Council in 32 BBY when Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, brought Anakin Skywalker before the Council. Doran admitted that he found the boy extremely talented, maybe even the Chosen One, but agreed with the rest of the Council that he was too old to begin training. Ultimately, newly Knighted Obi-Wan Kenobi persuaded the Council that he could train the boy, as his Master died with the promise that he would train Anakin.
Events under his nose
- "You kept this from me. I don't like it when I am forced to become ignorant. You, of all of people, know you will not like it when I am angry.
Your failure is becoming angry in the first place." - — Doran Nu and Mace Windu
Doran was ignorant, along with the rest of the Council, over the commencement of a droid army by Sifo-Diyas on the watery world of Kamino, nor the resignation of Dooku from the Jedi Order and what would come from it. Doran helped amnesiac Jedi Quinlan Vos return from his memory loss, but was not a part of the Council that knew of Vos' mission to become a double agent. Many members of the Council believed Doran would have disapproved of the mission, and their predictions were correct, based on Doran's reaction when he heard of it.
Doran was an enormous supporter of the Outbound Flight mission, though he disapproved of the mission's head, Jorus C'Baoth and his "tactics". Ironically, Doran would meet Jorus' mad clone, Joruus, later on.
Doran was the Council member that suggested that Anakin Skywalker attempt his first mission at protecting the Senator of Naboo, Padme Amidala after a recent assassination attempt on her life by the bounty hunters Jango Fett and Zam Wessel. He later received a report from Obi-Wan Kenobi who had discovered the existence of a clone army for the Republic. Doran was present in the Grand Convocation Chamber when Represenative Jar Jar Binks made the motion to grant emergency powers to Chancellor Palpatine, who was, unknowingly to the Jedi, Darth Sidious, a Sith Lord. Doran assembled a team of Jedi to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had been captured by the Confederacy of Independent Systems on Geonosis.
The Clone Wars
- "I'm the Grand Jedi General of an army made up of clones of a Mandalorian turned bounty hunter. I should be fighting against Mandalorians, not with them, and yet I am on the right side."
- — Doran Nu
213 Jedi, led by Doran, Mace Windu, Luminara Unduli, Shaak Ti, and Kit Fisto arrived at the Genosian execution arena. A brilliant fight began between the Jedi team and former captives Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala versus the Droid Army of the CIS. Many Jedi died during their lack of organization and military experience, a factor in which only Doran had any real knowledge in. Doran organized the surviving Jedi into a circle, preparing for their last stand. They were fortunately rescued by the timely arrival of Grand Master Yoda with the clone army from Kamino. Doran ordered all the Jedi to tighten their circle, giving the Republic gunships space to land and rescue the survivors.
More complex engagements soon followed on the surface of the rocky planet. Doran positioned himself at the main front along with Mace Windu. Doran led 4 legions of clone troopers across the sands of Geonosis, leading the charge and cutting down battle droids along the way. During the fight in the sands, Doran stopped to reflect upon the clone army he was leading, as hundreds of troops passed him. He took himself out of the battle, taking a LAAT to CIS-controlled hangar and finding Senator Amidala along the way. He arrived at the hangar only to find Dooku leaving in his own ship, and Jedis Kenobi, Skywalker and Yoda inside.
Doran was made Grand Jedi General of the Grand Army of the Republic, due to his extensive combat experience in earlier wars. He fought extensively in the Clone Wars during the Dark Reaper Campaign, the Defense of Kamino and the Battle of Hypori. It was on Hypori that he first encountered General Grevious, who had slaughtered other Jedi under Doran's command. Doran's mastery of the Djem So fighting style was not enough to beat Grevious fighting with three lightsabers, but he had to be pulled away by ARC troopers sent to rescue him and the other Jedi.
The Jedi Purge
- "The Sith are Sith. They exist to kill us. That existance is their only crime. The penalty is death. I exist to carry out that punishment."
- — Doran Nu
Doran was then present during the Battle of Coruscant, unveiling his new starfighter, the Nuiawrian for the first time, to rescue Chancellor Palpatine from the Confederacy, and the Battle of Utapau. Doran again briefly fought with Grevious on his ship, the Invisible Hand, but Grevious escaped. He was sent to Utapau with Obi-Wan Kenobi, where he again fought with Grevious and defeated him in battle, stabbing the cyborg in the organs and then decapitating him. Unfortunately, with Order 66, Doran and Obi-Wan were fired upon by the clonetroopers they were assigned to lead, beginning the Great Jedi Purge. They survived, but thousands of Jedi around the galaxy didn't, as they were turned upon by the clones. During this moment, Anakin Skywalker, now Darth Vader, lead an assault against the Jedi Temple, killing all the beings inside. Doran, through the Force, felt the deaths through the Force, especially of Mace Windu. While floating in a river on the bottom of a Utapan sinkhole, Doran wept.
Doran escaped Utapau with Kenobi and were rescued by Senator Bail Organa aboard the Tantive IV. The senator had also rescued Master Yoda from Kashyyyk, and they all returned to Coruscant. While Senator Organa went to an emergency session of the Senate, where Palpatine declared himself Emperor, the Jedi fought their way into the Jedi Temple and discovered the remains of the slaughter. Realizing it was Anakin Skywalker that led the assault, Kenobi left to confront him. Doran went to Emperor Palpatine, irrationally ordering Yoda to retreat somewhere to hide from the Sith. Doran engaged Palpatine, now fully Darth Sidious, in a fight, practically destroying the Senate arena in the process. During the fight, Palpatine shot Force lightning at Doran, but Doran managed to block most of it, although stray bolts caught Doran on the bridge of the nose, bloodying him. In a rage, Doran fired his own lightning, superheating the air between the two and causing a large explosion. Doran fell atop the Emperor's main pulpit in the centre of the room. Holding on to an embedded signature of the Republic's symbol on the center of the pulpit, Palpatine mocked him as the sign slowly broke off the pulpit, taking the symbol, Doran, his cloak and his lightsaber separately to the bottom of the Senate floor. In a way, Doran effectively brought the Republic down with him.
Badly pained and bruised, he escaped and was rescued by Bail Organa. With a hidden tracker placed on Amidala’s ship, he flew to Mustafar where Kenobi and Vader were engaged in a duel. Doran entered near the end of the fight. Watching Kenobi handicap Vader with his lightsaber, he let Kenobi leave. With Vader cursing at him, Doran gave him his final last words:
- Doran: Within all laws of the Republic, I have every right to leave you a corpse and cremate you myself. Even though I shouldn’t, I’d suitably enjoy it.
- Vader: The Jedi turned on me! You’re all liars!
- Doran: Quiet. In my eyes, you are a mass murderer, but I am not going to kill you. Although I do have an alternative.
Doran lifted his hand and slowly pushed Vader towards the lava river. As Vader's robes caught fire, Doran raised his cowl to watch the immolation. As Doran watched, his eyes slightly turned yellow, like a Sith's, but ultimately, Doran left Vader for death. Doran and Kenobi took the pregnant Amidala, who was now dying, to the base on Polis Massa. There, she gave birth to the twins Luke and Leia Skywalker and told Kenobi and Doran that "there is still good in (Anakin)".
Exile (19 BBY-0 BBY)
- "I'll protect the girl. If the boy doesn't end up helping us, it'll be up to me to make sure, in my exile, that she is fit to defeat her father."
- — Doran Nu
Kenobi took Luke under his care to Tatooine, while Doran became a protector of Leia, who was put under adoptive parentship of Bail Organa's Royal family, taking the name Leia Organa. Doran then shut himself off from the Force, due to his close proximity on Alderaan to Coruscant and the Emperor, he did not want to make himself a viable target. He avoiding all callings through the Force to any Jedi Conclaves and lived the next few years of seclusion, undergoing physical surgery to enlongate his hair and disguise his facial features to become a different man. When Leia was old enough, he began training her for basic combat training, which she would ultimately need as Leia followed her adoptive father's footsteps into becoming a very vocal Senator of Alderaan.
A plan is set in motion
- "This trap must be more clever than the trap that defeated us, because since I and the others survived, the trap ultimately failed. Our trap must not suffer the same failure."
- — Doran Nu
Doran, Kenobi and Yoda realized that Vader's offspring would be able to defeat the Sith Lord. By seperating them, they increased their chances of survival. Doran was unable to train Leia in the ways of the Force, but knew that if her brother Luke would be unable to defeat Vader, she would have to be the one tasked with the mission. Doran waited until the right moment for his plan to be set into motion, when Vader would be able to be defeated. It came 19 years after he had been forced into exile.
Doran was onboard the Tantive IV when Leia went to retrieve the Death Star plans from Toprawa in 0 BBY. From there, they fled to Tatooine on Doran's advice, but Darth Vader on the Star Destroyer Devastator was in hot pursuit, and he opened fire on the Tantive IV over Tatooine. The ship was quickly disabled and boarded by Imperial stormtroopers, but Doran managed to escape with the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO; R2 carrying the plans for the Death Star. On a specially modified escape pod that warded off lifesign sensors, they crash-landed on Tatooine.
Wandering for miles, the trio were captured by Jawa scavengers, who were looking to sell the droids. Doran simply wanted to have a ride somewhere and the Jawas, only eager for the droids, let him. By sheer luck, or the Force, they ended up at the Lars Homestead where Kenobi had dropped off the infant Luke to be raised. Even as an adult, Luke was recognized instantly by Doran, due to the high concentration of Force power enemating from him. Doran left the sandcrawler along with the droids, who were sold to the Larses.
Doran manipulated Luke at first, realizing that Luke hated his life on a moisture farm and preying on the emotion, manipulating him to his cause. Luke learned he was from the Rebel Alliance and that they were escaping the Imperial stormtroopers. Doran was unable to convince Luke to leave the farm just yet, but managed to find out that Kenobi was hiding out on Tatooine under the name "Ben". When Luke was not around, he gave R2-D2 orders to find Kenobi, then acted oblivious when Luke found that the droid was gone.
He left the homestead the next morning with Luke and C-3PO, but they were attacked by Tusken Raiders upon finding R2. In superior numbers, the Tuskens overran Doran before he could reach his weapons and managed to knock him unconscious. Fortunately, Kenobi was nearby and saved the group. They escaped to Kenobi's hut where Doran and Kenobi related to Luke an altered story of the Jedi Knights and the betrayal of Darth Vader. They explained that Vader was a pupil of Kenobi's and betrayed the Jedi Knights, including Luke's father, Anakin. Kenobi gave Luke Anakin's old lightsaber which he recovered from Mustafar 19 years ago. Doran showed Kenobi the recording made by Leia that was recorded by R2-D2, and related the story to him. They both agreed that Luke should come with them. Luke was reluctant at first, but was determined to go with them to Alderaan after his adoptive aunt and uncle were killed by stormtroopers.
Mission to Alderaan
- "Only passengers. Myself, the boy, the old man, two droids... and no questions asked."
- — Doran Nu
The five of them found passage on smuggler Han Solo's ship, the Millennium Falcon, finding him and his co-pilot, Chewbacca, inside the Mos Eisley Cantina. Luke was briefly abused by Ponda Baba and Dr. Evazan, but they were stopped by Kenobi and Doran. Kenobi cut off Baba's arm, and, as if to fulfill bartender Wuher's banning of blasters, Doran used his lightsaber to slice Evazan's blaster in half and subsequently deliver a glancing blow to his chest. The thugs would survive the attack.
The group would nearly make it off the planet, pursued by stormtroopers and Star Destroyers, but the ship made it to the Alderaan system... too late. Alderaan had been destroyed by the Death Star's superlaser. The Millennium Falcon was captured by the Death Star, but the party hid in smuggling compartments underneath the bulkheads. The group escaped the ship, where Kenobi split off on his own to disable the tractor beam. The remaining members found that Leia was a prisoner on the Death Star, and mounted a rescue operation to save her. The rescue did not entirely go as planned (Doran did not draw his lightsaber at any time) but they managed to escape. Kenobi, however, fell in battle to Darth Vader, much to Luke and Doran's shock. Doran drew his lightsaber to protect himself from stormtroopers during the escape, declaring to Vader that he was alive.
Despite their successful escape, Imperial troopers had placed a tracking beacon onboard the Falcon. This allowed the Death Star to arrive in the Yavin system, home to the Rebel Base on Yavin 4, just after the Falcon did. Quickly discerning the nature of the plans hidden inside R2-D2, the Rebel Alliance strategists developed a plan to destroy the Death Star. Doran participated in the Battle of Yavin, but it was Luke Skywalker that fired the final shot that destroyed the Death Star. Darth Vader survived the explosion, however, in his TIE Advanced fighter.
Running with the Rebellion (3 ABY-4 ABY)
- "Jedi training is never easy.
What did you do to become a Jedi?
I watched my homeworld get nearly destroyed, killed my best friend and became the unwilling hero of a war. It took 3 years." - — Doran Nu and Luke Skywalker
Doran ran with the Rebel Alliance to many worlds, one of these being Hoth. Doran helped Han Solo save Luke Skywalker from the icy night on the snow-covered world after Luke was attacked by a native wampa. Hearing Luke mutter about Yoda and Dagobah alerted Luke that he had been contacted by Kenobi, something Luke had told him about earlier. He was later told this by Luke himself. Doran then participated in the Battle of Hoth, but was unable to get back to Leia, the one he was to protect. Instead, he followed Luke to Dagobah. Doran crash-landed his fighter in a swamp on the planet, a "mudhole", as Luke called it. Doran then helped Yoda train Luke in the ways of the Force. He, along with Yoda and Kenobi, pleaded with Luke to stay and complete his training. Luke refused, and Doran left with him to Bespin.
Rescue of Leia and Chewbacca
Doran and Luke arrived at Bespin to find that Han had been frozen in carbonite, much like Doran had millennia before. Luke followed where he believed the Imperials holding Leia hostage had gone, but he was wrong. Doran then closed a door between the two of them, seperating them and leaving Luke alone to face his lesson, to face Darth Vader. Doran then moved quickly, but not quickly enough for Cloud City Administrator Lando Calrissian to betray the Imperials and save Leia and Chewbacca. Doran arrived in time to choke Lando, but got information out of him that Han could still be saved. The group rushed to save Han from the bounty hunter, Boba Fett (whom Doran had met before), but were unsuccessful. They retreated to the Falcon and escaped from Cloud City. Along the way, Doran heard Luke's call for help through the Force, but ignored it. He was then surprised to hear a call to Leia for help from Luke, but more surprised that Luke had tried rather than the fact that Leia received the call. He then nursed Luke's wound on his hand as the Falcon evaded TIE Fighters and the Executor. Right there, Luke confronted Doran about Vader's revelation about Luke's parentage:
- Luke: Why didn't you tell me (that Vader was my father)?
- Doran: He's not. Why? Did he tell you that? Did he make you believe that mis-truth?
- Luke: Is he right or not?
- Doran: Anakin Skywalker, in mind, is dead. Whether or not his body is destroyed is irrelevant. There is only Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith. You wouldn't have wanted to know if you had the choice, Luke. We protected you.
- Luke: Why?!
- Doran: We protected you - me, Obi-Wan and Yoda - against this. You should thank us, not ask me these questions. Vader is only trying to use you. Don't believe that he is Anakin, because he isn't... anymore.
Doran never expressly told Luke that Vader was Anakin Skywalker, and Luke never believed his denial.
Rescue of Han
Doran and Luke were able to reconcile enough to draw up a suitable plan to save Han Solo from the crimelord Jabba the Hutt, after several attempts to extract Han's carbonite slab from Boba Fett failed. Numerous other bounty hunters hampered Fett's efforts to reach Jabba's palace safely. Once learning of Han's final location at Jabba's Palace, Doran drafted a plan to rescue him, which succeeded, after killing Jabba's rancor and defeating Boba Fett over the Great Pit of Carkoon.
Luke and Doran traveled to Dagobah to visit the dying Yoda. There, Doran, Yoda and the spirit form of Obi-Wan Kenobi confirmed to Luke that Anakin Skywalker had been seduced to the dark side of the Force and became Darth Vader. Luke realized that Leia was also his sister, a secret Doran implicitly told him to keep from Vader.
Destruction of the Empire
- "You've lost, your Highness. Your apprentice will be defeated, and you are about to die, either by my hand or the forces of that fleet. Ultimately, it's not your choice.
How weak, you are, Jedi." - — Doran Nu and Palpatine
Doran and Luke returned to the Rebel Alliance orbiting Sullust and participated in the Battle of Endor, traveling to the forest moon of Endor to disable the shield generator protecting the newly constructed second Death Star. However, after admitting to Leia of her family heritage to Luke, Doran and Luke allowed themselves to be captured to distract Darth Vader and the Imperial troops from finding the Rebel strike force. Vader took the two Jedi to Emperor Palpatine aboard the Death Star, just as the Rebel fleet emerged from hyperspace. The Emperor revealed his trap he set for the Rebels, intending to enrage Luke into attacking him and turn him to the dark side. Luke did, eventually, only to be parried into a fight with Vader. Doran then drew his own lightsaber, attempting to kill the Sith Lord, only to find Sidious was protected by an energy field. After throwing a curse of "You traitorous Sithspawn", Doran was Force pushed by Sidious under a platform in the Emperor's throne room, incapacitating him.
Doran would awaken, however, as Luke and Vader's fight took them under this platform. Vader was able to ascertain that Padme had given birth to twins and discover the identity of Leia from Luke and, after threatening Luke about seducing Leia, was attacked by Doran. Doran attacked Vader ferociously, defending his oath to protect Leia at all costs. But ultimately, the Chosen One defeated him and sliced off his hand at the wrist, echoing what Vader had done to Luke on Bespin. Doran fell over, withstanding the pain enough not to scream, only clutching his arm, but Luke saved him before he could be dealt his coup de grâce, attacking Vader and slicing off his prosthetic hand. The Emperor was very pleased, demanding Luke finish the task, but Luke denied the Emperor his pride. He renounced the Emperor's seduction, throwing away his lightsaber and declaring he was a Jedi. Doran's look of praise was quickly lost, as he had already withstood the Emperor's ferocious Force lightning. The Emperor attacked both Jedi with the Sith power, at first using non-lethal bolts but gradually amplifying the power and intensity of his blasts. Doran and Luke pleaded with Vader to save them:
- Luke: Father, please, help!
- Doran: Vader! Kill him!
- Luke: Father!
- Doran: Vad- Vad-... ANAKIN! Kill him, Anakin! KILL HIM!
Vader's redemption began. In the middle of the greatest despair that they were feeling, Anakin overcame his Sith persona, saving his son and Doran and the Emperor. With his remaining hand, he picked up Palpatine and threw him down a reactor shaft, where the Emperor exploded. Anakin had been attacked by the full force of the Emperor's lightning attack as he did this, which disabled the life support systems of his armor. Vader was dead, but Anakin was dying. Unable to breathe with the armor, he asked to look upon Luke without the armor. He was redeemed, and asked for Doran's forgiveness. Doran did not answer and instead was nearly driven to tears.
Doran would return to Endor with Luke and see the redeemed spirit of Anakin Skywalker, alongside Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Late Galactic Civil War (4 ABY-9 ABY)
- "This is not over. This may never be over. Not even after we take back Coruscant, it will not be over. Not till they are driven out of our lives forever."
- — Doran Nu
Doran assisted the Alliance of Free Planets and the newly-formed Republic in the battles soon after to become the galactic government. However, this took a secondary role as Doran would soon have to assist Luke Skywalker in his attempt to re-establish the Jedi Order. Doran told Luke all he could, but readily informed him of the failings of the Jedi Order.
Thrawn Campaign
Doran traveled with Luke to the remote world of Jomark to find what looked to be Jorus C'baoth, but it was apparent that it was not Jorus. Instead, it was his insane Dark Jedi clone. The Jedi left the world and re-encountered C'baoth on Wayland, Mara Jade accompanying them.
Death
There, C'baoth fought the Jedi with Force lightning and a clone grown out of Luke's severed hand and lightsaber that he lost at Bespin. While Mara defeated the clone of Luke, Doran and Luke engaged C'baoth. C'baoth cleverly dodged an attack by Doran and his counterattack - a point-blank, elongated burst of Force lightning - thrust Doran to the outside of the room. The blast overloaded his nerves, caused internal bleeding, and paralyzed him. C'baoth was defeated, but Doran was dead. Coughing blood, he informed Luke of his real name and his home planet, then faded into the Force, leaving his robes, lightsaber and prosthetic hand.
Doran was not gone forever. Somehow, Doran was able to use the Force to withstand the ever-fading reality of normal Force spirits. Doran, in his now spirit form, was able to interact with the corporeal form in a limited fashion. He was also able to travel nearly instantaneously to any world, although worlds rife with the Force were easier than most. Doran was not able to stay in the corporeal world for a long time and was forced to fade into the Force for "rest".
The Return of Palpatine
Doran was unable to directly face the reborn Emperor Palpatine. The reborn clone's dark side aura was far too powerful for Doran's inexperienced spirit form to penetrate, and thus, Doran was relegated to a support role during this period. He did, however, travel with Luke to Ossus to investigate rumours of artifacts given to them by the holocron of Bodo Baas, a relative of Doran's ancient master. Doran was reunited with the Neti Ood Bnar, briefly, before the tree-like Jedi sacrificed himself to eliminate Sedriss.
Support from the Force itself (11 ABY-18 ABY
Doran helped Luke find new students for his Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV. Doran was reluctant on Luke's choice for a world, stating that there was a "bad aura around Yavin". However, Doran was not able to discern this aura came from the still-sleeping spirit of Exar Kun. During the initial chaos Kun created for the Jedi at the temple, Doran used much of his power traveling back and forth between the Academy and Leia and Han, who were tracking the new apprentice Kyp Durron, seduced by Kun to the dark side. Doran used up all of his power during these transitions, which was just what Exar wanted. Exar unleashed his full force upon the Academy now, tearing Luke's spirit from his body and unleashing havoc upon the academy.
But before Kun could destroy them all, Doran returned. Exar was pleased by this and used the Force to temporarily bring both Doran and himself into the corporeal world proper. Exar drew his archaic double-bladed lightsaber, while Doran drew Luke's, and the duel was on. Doran was assisted by his old master, Vodo-Siosk Baas, and defeated the Sith Lord, destroying his lightsaber and wounding him to the brink of death. Doran unleashed a Force storm of epic proportions in a closed-off section of the temple. The storm disentegrated Kun's body. Doran also bid his final farewell to his old Master, who remarked "You are truly the greatest Jedi of this time, my apprentice." Unfortunately, upon Exar's death, Doran returned to spirit form.
Doran would be one of the victims of the outer-dimensional being Waru. However, he was the only Force-sensitive to be sucked into Waru's grasp, or so Doran thought. Nomi Sunrider, gone for 4,000 years, was also within Waru, for unknown reasons. Doran and Nomi distracted Waru from the inside just in time to be released into the corporeal world, both in flesh and blood. The couple was reborn and reunited, and Doran, instantly smitten with his old flame, immediately asked her to marry him, before he introduced her to his friends. Nomi would say yes.
However, upon his exit from Waru, Doran would find his immortality lost, and he began to age normally, starting from twenty-four, the age he was when he gained his immortality. In 22 ABY, Doran and Nomi would have a son, Andur Nuiawrian, named for Nomi's first husband, Andur Sunrider.
The Yuuzhan Vong War (25 ABY-30 ABY)
- "Doran! You're almost talking about turning to the dark side.
Would it stop this war?" - — Nomi Sunrider and Doran Nu
Doran would be on the front lines of the new invasion, this time from intergalactic invaders called the Yuuzhan Vong. Doran would be the first to kill one of them, and the first to realize the invaders did not exist in the Force. Doran was stunned by this development, convinced that his own training was not false and the problem lay with the Vong themselves. Luke was inclined to believe the problem lay with their perception, as the Vong were, undoubtedly, alive. It was the first time Doran and Luke would ever disagree over an issue.
His son, Andur, would be placed in hiding, along with many other young Jedi, as Doran went to the forefront of most of the battles of the war, including forulating the destruction of the Legacy of Torment. Doran was devastated by the loss of Coruscant to the Vong, as well as the Force shockwave that was unleashed upon the death of Anakin Solo. He also traveled with Luke to the Vongformed Yuuzhan'tar to face the deranged mutant Irek Ismaren, now Lord Nyax.
Vergere, a Fosh Jedi of the old order, proved to Doran that their perception of the Force was flawed. She reasoned with him about this, as well as old times from the pre-Clone Wars era. Doran traveled with Luke to the Unknown Regions and found the living world Zonoma Sekot. There, Doran's old theory was proved correct, that the Yuuzhan Vong had been stripped of the Force. At the climax of the war, Doran fought fifteen Yuuzhan Vong Slayers at his own and Anakin Solo's lightsabers. Wounded, he nonetheless traveled onboard the command vessel and witnessed the death of Onimi at the hands of Jacen Solo's overpowered Force abilities. Doran then slew Nom Anor in cold blood, believing him to be responsible for most of the hardships that had befallen Doran during the war.
Post-Yuuzhan Vong War (30 ABY-36 ABY)
- "I'm sorr-orr-orry. (sobs)
I forgive you, Dad. I think you need to hear that." - — Doran Nu and Andur Nu
Doran was still deeply distraught by what he had done to Anor. Doran considered himself unfit to be a Jedi, a husband and a father. He left known space in his ship, without a crew, to wander.
During a trip, Doran was ambushed and seduced by Nightsister Lomi Plo. She manipulated his mind, using a Nightsister "spell", and placed him under her control. She directed him fly to Bilbringi on auto-pilot, then placed him unconscious. Doran's ship arrived in Bilbringi in 32 ABY and he was instantly placed in medical care on Coruscant. Doran would remain in the coma for 2 years, until coming out of it, terribly disturbed. "He" refused to speak about what had happened, and about much of anything, for that matter, instead reducing to screams of terror when forced to "think". The truth about Doran came out when Luke was fighting Lomi Plo. Doran suddenly appeared in battle, chased by Nomi aboard the Nuiawrian. He distracted Luke long enough for Plo to get away. A brief fight between the Jedi Masters ensued, resulting in Doran's escape.
Doran was captured by the Jedi, using a device capable of distracting Lomi Plo, reducing her hold on the Joiners, including Doran. He was placed in a transparent isolation cube, which contained him. Doran would view the hologram recording of Luke and Leia's birth, stating "I didn't think I'd ever have to experience that moment again." He also met his son for the first time, apologizing to him for being away. From within his "cell", Doran refused to back down from his orthodox "light and dark" view of the Force, refusing to adopt the Potentium view, stating it would lead to cold-blooded actions such as his murder of Nom Anor.
Upon Lomi Plo's death and the end of the Swarm War, Doran was released from medical care, no longer a threat.
Legacy Era (40 ABY)
- "Why'd we get named after a rodent?
Because of you, I think.
Stop talking, apprentice." - — Doran and Andur
As of the Legacy Era, Doran is Jedi Master to his 18-year old son, Andur, who is nearly a Jedi Knight. Doran is part of the Jedi team at the beginning of the Second Corellian Insurrection, participating in Operation Roundabout. Doran, along with Nomi, Andur and Corran Horn, stood watch over the Coronet spaceport as Operation Slashrat. The mission proved moot as Corellia deployed its secret assault fleet, negating any need to scramble forces from its spaceport. The Nuiawrians were sucessfully extracted from the planet, while Master Horn stayed behind. The Nuiawrians then traveled to the Kuati orbital station, Toryaz Station, for the opening of negotiations between the Galactic Alliance and the Corellian system. The station was attacked by a secret commando squad provided by Thracken Sal-Solo and brought there by the Dark Jedi Lumiya. The commandoes struck every delegation, but were only successful in killing Corellian Prime Minister Aidel Saxon. The Nuiawrians returned to Coruscant after this event.
Personality and traits
Doran's immortality is seen by him as a curse, having endlessly witnessed the deaths of many friends as he continues to live on. Because of the endless grief he feels, as well as the deaths through the Force, Doran's brain consistently shuts him out to many of the events he has experienced in his life, especially the 3,000 year lull in between the Great Sith War and the Ruusan Reformations. Although, now with his aging continued, he no longer looks to the future as having no end.
Doran's personality is certaintly firebrand, with an intense quick-to-anger habit. He also has a dry wit, which he displays infrequently. With his anger habit, as well as his light side traits, most attribute Doran to be a true Grey Jedi. No matter Doran's traits, this is incorrect. Despite his personality, Doran consistently serves the Jedi Order, believing it to be the ideal route to serving the Force. Doran believes in the orthodox view of the light and dark sides and opposes the Potentium view. He also as a vehement dislike, some might say hatred, for the Sith. As such, Doran is still a light side user, albeit a realistic, pessimistic one.
On one occasion, Doran was shown with the iconic yellow eyes of the Sith, while watching Darth Vader burn alive on Mustafar. It is not known if Doran was aware he was brushing with the dark side or was relishing in it.
Abilities and weapons
Doran's force abilities are nothing short of impressive, able to wield telekinesis, telepathy, increase in speed, Force sense, Saber throw, Force concealment, Force wave, Breath Control, Precognition, Enhance Ability, Force Vision, Force Persuasion (and Mind Trick), Hibernation Trance, Dissapate Energy, Battlemind and, in rare occasions, Force Grip, Force Lightning, Force Throw, Force Rage and Force Storm.
- Superhuman Strength: Doran has undergone intense physical and mental conditioning since before his twenties, and this has continued regularly into his 4000th year and beyond. Doran has the ability to break durasteel links (in the form of handcuffs) between his wrists, when physically exerted. Doran has been able to break through thin permacrete walls when forced to, but no more. It is believed he could lift up to the weight of a speeder bike, but not an airspeeder. Doran does not use his normal strength often, but would rather use the Force.
- Superhuman Stamina: Doran can exert himself at peak capacity for several hours before sustaining fatigue.
- Superhuman Speed: Without the Force, Doran can run and win an Olympic marathon barely breaking a sweat. Using the Force, however, Doran can run at speeds in excess to 90 kilometers per hour (almost 56 mph) and can run that same Olympic marathon and back again without so much as becoming a little fatigued.
- Superhuman Agility: Doran can accomplish dare-defying flips and rolls, whilst keeping himself acutely aware of his surroundings inside of a flip or a roll and can fire or swing a weapon mid-flip/roll.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Doran can dodge a blaster bolt, as long as the blaster in question is at least more than 30 meters (almost 100 feet) away. His Force-sense allows him to dodge the lightsaber swing of a practiced Jedi Knight or Sith Marauder, given the swing is not begun closer than 2 feet from his body.
Force powers
- Telekenesis: Doran can levitate most other objects, propel them (Force push/pull) or manipulate them however he wants. Doran has lifted an object as large as his own ship. Doran also commented to Yoda after he
Doran has only had one lightsaber, built in 4,000 BBY. It has, however, been constantly updated. Like most advanced lightsabers, it contains three crystals of the Eralam, Pontite and Opila varieties. This combination produced a clear, superior, blue blade capable of cutting through most materials very quickly. It was rumoured that if Doran were to deliver a hard swing to a blade of cortosis alloy, his lightsaber would break through the otherwise impenetrable sword. It was very difficult to short out Doran's lightsaber with a blade of cortosis ore.
Doran was a master of the Djem So style of combat and an advanced user of Soresu and Ataru. He considered Shii-Cho and Niman as terrible forms of combat, though he admired Kit Fisto's dedication and ability to use Form I. Doran was also a practitioner of Teräs Käsi and Broken Gate.
At the end of the Clone Wars, Doran's ship, the Nuiawrian was completed. As of the Legacy Era, Doran still owns the heavily-modifed starfighter.
Behind the scenes
Doran (the person, in EV) created Doranesweyn (Doran in the above bio) when he was 6 years old, watching Star Wars for what was probably the 15th time... or maybe the 30th. Doranesweyn was originally a completely immortal character, seemingly unable to die even when struck by a blaster bolt. Instead, the original Doranesweyn would instantly shape-shift upon "death" into three distinct forms. Doran is unable to remember what the three forms are, though remembers each had a special ability, and one through ninja stars...
In any case, Doranesweyn eventually adopted the role of a Jedi. Doran also invented the Nuiawrian at this point, though it had no name, as Doranesweyn's name was simply Doran Nu at this point. Doranesweyn's role in the OT was much more interactive, and Doranesweyn was also a more joking character than the serious, tragic one he is now. Originally, Doranesweyn was able to clone himself at will. These independent Doranesweyns would be in every scene in the OT at once. Of course, Darth Vader cut Doranesweyn's hand off as well as Luke's in ESB. Since that was not a clone of him, all other clones lost their hands as well (not right away, that'd be too gruesome).
Upon reading the Essential Guide to Characters, Doran read the entire story about Ulic Qel-Droma, Exar Kun and Nomi Sunrider. Exclaiming that Doranesweyn HAD to be there, Doran changed Doranesweyn YET AGAIN. He had already re-applied the never-aging concept to Doranesweyn, but now placed his birth just before the Great Sith War. He also adopted Ossus as his homeworld and Vodo-Siosk Baas as his master, and Exar Kun as his best friend (originally, now not so much). Exar Kun would betray Doranesweyn, kill Vodo, prompting Doranesweyn to engage Exar on the surface of Yavin as the Republic bombarded the planet. Doranesweyn would then escape and leave Exar to die, only to re-encounter him, as written, in Luke's Jedi Praxeum. It was also here that Doraneweyn would get his full name - Doranesweyn Nuiawrian.
When the PT was released, Doranesweyn underwent re-writes upon every movie. The number of them are too many (Doranesweyn was involved in nearly all of the events of the PT like the Battle of Naboo, Mission to Kamino, etc. originally), but eventually landing on the current written version. Doran invented the rank of Grand Jedi General, since, after all, Doranesweyn DOES have more combat experience than all the others. Doranesweyn is simply the field commander-in-chief.
Doranesweyn's death was always to be at the hand of Joruus C'baoth, ever since Doran read about the insane clone. What wasn't always clear was Doranesweyn's rebirth. Originally, the New Republic invented a device that brought him (and Nomi, somehow) back. Secondly, the Bakuran entechment technology became that device, and again, Nomi was brought back somehow. By the time the NJO came out and Doran was already writing stuff on Doranesweyn and Nomi married, Doran went to the worst Star Wars, The Crystal Star, for the solution. Waru was the perfect scapegoat, and somehow Nomi got captured by Waru in some as of yet un-retconned story. Doranesweyn would use the Force to escape death, as did Nomi, and they both escaped, corporeal. Yep, using the worst character in history for your own's rebirth works.
Doranesweyn's son, Andur, is clearly named after Andur Sunrider, Nomi's first husband. And yes, Doranesweyn picked it.
Doranesweyn's ever-increasing rage during the NJO was going to be more, MUCH more. Doran originally wrote that he went on a rage against the Vong, independently, almost slipping to the dark side. Anakin Solo's death hits him harder than it does now, and the loss of Coruscant shook him more. Doranesweyn was always going to murder Nom Anor at the end, but immediately feel guilty afterwards, then teleport away and essentially stay away for years. Doran realized that teleportation as a Force power sucks... hard. So he re-wrote that he escaped the ship with Han & Co. then leave.
Doranesweyn during the Dark Nest is still a little lazily written right now. If you don't like it, don't blame Doran... it's your fault.
